Inhaling Freedom
Description :
This sculpture is of a dancer, much like Ballet dancer, lunging forward in an expression of freedom and relief. The strong body posture shows the intensity. The head, hands and fingers revealing the gentle, delicate release. I designed and created this sculpture in 2018.
Strength in Motion
Description :
The sculpture is of a Gymnast performing the "Flare". I made this sculpture in 2020. This technically complex movement requires enormous strength and timing to perform smoothly. I've emphasized the muscles to depict the strength component and head position the concentration/ focus. The straight legs and pointed feet remind us that this is a performance, a dance.
Wave Play
Description :
The Sculpture is of a Surfer performing a "Cut Back". The timing of the maneuver is critical, especially with large powerful waves. When performed by an experienced, skillful surfer, in big, fast conditions, it's a real spectacle. I've tried to craft the 'Base' to represent the wave and given it as much curve and flow as possible. I created this sculpture in 2016.
Placement
Description :
This Sculpture is of a Soccer player performing a long pass down the field. The pass is made with anticipation of his teammates movement and the accuracy to give them the advantage upon receiving. Many factors are taken into account, decision and execution made on the move with great skill to ensure the 'Placement' is just right. I started this sculpture in 2017 but didn't finish it until 2024.
Smooth Power
Description :
This Sculpture is of a Tennis player, serving the ball. The alignment of the toes, shoulders, back swim of the racquet, arch of the back, bend of the knees, twist of the trunk and ball toss, all synchronize to coiling the body. The body and racquet are now ready to perfectly time the release of a smooth, powerful serve with decisive accuracy. I designed this sculpture in 2020 but didn't start working on it or finish it until 2024.
Balanced Grace
Description :
The Sculpture is of a young female gymnast performing on the Horizontal Beam. The name of the move being performed is "handstand with large arch span". This graceful move balanced on her palms, depicts strength, flexibility and controlled balance. A precarious move performed with grace. The elegant shape of the body and legs with pointed toes accentuates the skilled performance. Created in 2014.
Go
Description :
The Sculpture is of a swimmer performing a dive off the Block. The movement captures the swimmers explosive reaction to "Go". This movement has to be perfectly coordinated from the arms all through the body down to the toes gripping the Block. The goal is to react quickly, launch the body forward as far as possible yet still control the movement through the air precisely to enter the water at an optimal 30 degree angle and as streamlined as possible. I made this in 2012.
